Dave Lochner and Susan Baldacci sail their Sabre 30, Identity Crisis, out of the Oswego Yacht Club on Lake Ontario.
Dave’s been an active member of the Oswego Yacht Club for nearly a quarter century cruising, racing, and managing regattas. He describes himself as an episodic reader; often quickly consuming several books and then reflecting on them for months afterwards.
Susan joined Dave a few years ago and has become a passionate sailor herself. Susan’s an avid reader and a quick learner.
There’s a 7 year plan underway to sail out the St. Lawrence River to Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, the Maine coast, and points south.
Before they quit their day jobs, Dave and Susan have begun learning about the cruising lifestyle. As we move forward in our plans, we anticipate reading volumes on cruising, sailing, and boat maintenance, with some time out for recreational reading. Paradise can be found hanging on a hook in a quiet anchorage lost in a good read.
How do you separate books worth reading and buying from those best left on the shelf? In January 2008 a web search revealed few sources for book reviews for the recreational boater. It’s our hope to fill this niche and to fatten the cruising kitty a bit. The books we review will be linked to Amazon.com where you can purchase the book; for each book purchased from a link on our site we receive a small commission.
