<h3>The Secret Ever Keeps</h3></p> <h4>By Art Tirrell</h4></p> Set on the shores and waters of Lake Ontario, Art Tirrell’s debut novel, The Secret Ever Keeps, tells the story of former bootlegger Jake Eastland’s search for treasure in the depths of Lake Ontario and in his past. Tirrell draws upon a lifetime of sailing on Lake Ontario to set the stage for a captivating adventure tale.</p> The south shore of Lake Ontario, only 50 miles from Kingston, Ontario, was a center for bootlegging during prohibition. Tirrell’s story chronicles one man’s rise to prominence during prohibition and it’s cost to himself and his family. As the story unfolds, the reader becomes aware that young engineer Laurel Kingsford is, unbeknownst to her, Eastland’s granddaughter. While trying to recover whiskey lost by Eastland a half-century earlier, Kingsford discovers an 18th century shipwreck. There are the usual cast of characters out to thwart her efforts, but the real story, the meat of the story is Eastland’s reflections and coming to terms with his life and those in it.</p> Tirrell writes in a crisp, entertaining style. A thoughtful engaging story, The Secret Ever Keeps is an adventure tale with depth equal to its adventure.
